Hot Tub Filters

How Long Do Hot Tub Filters Last?

When it comes to your hot tub filter, its lifespan will depend on a number of factors, a good quality filter should last from two to five years, this is if the filter is being cleaned and maintained properly. For those hot tub owners who use their hot tub frequently, around three years is the longest you can expect a spa filter to last. It’s important to remember that this will all depend on how well you care for your hot tub filter, as well as how often you are using it. The type of water you use can also affect how often your hot tub filter will need to be replaced, hard water can cause calcium to build up on the filter, which won’t be noticeable to the eye when in the water, but it can cause serious deterioration over a much quicker time scale. If you notice that your spa filter is green or brown, or falls apart when cleaning, this is another sign that it needs replacing. We recommend that in order to get the most out of your hot tub filter, you regularly clean it as well as rinse the filter with running water, this can just be done with tap water. You should do this every month and we also advise that you spray a specialised chemical spa spray on the filter before you rinse it, as well as make sure that it is empty before your clean it. Around every three months, you should be looking to remove the filter and soak it in a cleaning chemical solution for an overnight period.

How Often Should You Replace Spa Filters?

If you have bought a spa or hot tub, it’s important to know exactly what a hot tub filter is, as well as how it needs to be cleaned and maintained, as well as when it is due to be replaced. The filter on your hot tub is a vital component and is what is used to ensure that your hot tub is always clean and sanitary, ensuring that you can enjoy your hot tub whenever your wish. Hot tub filters do require cleaning and maintenance on hot tubs and spas frequently, this is to ensure the longest lifespan for the filter. It’s important that they remember when you first installed your filter and how long that you have had it for, it will ensure that your hot tub is always performing to its optimum capacity. When it comes to avoiding your hot tub being out of use, we recommend that you always buy a spare filter, this can be used when you are cleaning your current one, we also advise that you never use a high pressure washer on the filter and that you use a gentle stream of water. You should also allow the hot tub filter to dry completely before you replace it and use rubber gloves when handling the filter with chemical sprays and cleaners.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my hot tub filter last?

Hot tub filters generally last at least one year at a minimum but can last as long as two years, depending on how often your hot tub is used. If you take care of the hot tub filter by properly maintaining and regularly cleaning it, you can extend its life compared to if you didn’t touch it.

Can I use my hot tub without a filter?

We would not recommend using your hot tub without a filter; this can lead to severe damage. Without a filter, your pump impellers can become clogged and blocked and cause a severe decline in water quality, meaning you will need to use more hot tub chemicals. Try running the pump on its lowest speed settings instead of shutting it off; it will help keep your filter in good condition.

How do you deep clean a hot tub filter?

One of the best ways you can clean a hot tub filter is by using a filter cleaning chemical; once you have found one that will work for your specific filter brand, all you need to do is soak the filter. The recommended advice will be printed on all individual filter cleaning solutions. Still, we suggest soaking your filter for 8 hours and then rinsing thoroughly before placing back in your hot tub.

How do I know what size filter cartridge my hot tub needs?

To try and determine the size of the hot tub filter you need, you have to check your specific hot tub specifications and manual, or you can measure the filter hole in your hot tub. To do this, you need to measure the height and width of the filter compartment simply; this will help you find the right size you need.

How do I know when my filter is ready to be changed?

If your hot tub filter is ready to be changed, you may notice that the water has started to go murky, and no amount of hot tub chemicals is helping. The clarity of your water is one of the most significant indicators you need to either clean or replace your hot tub filter.
